Which cortisol test is right for me?

Each kind of cortisol test answers a different question. Pick the one closest to yours.

1. What do you want to find out?
2. Do you have any of these right now: severe vomiting or diarrhoea, severe weakness, confusion, fainting or severe stomach pain?
3. Do you use steroid medicines (tablets, inhalers, creams or injections)?

The short version

  • Hair for your long-term average: stress, tiredness, sleep, weight, tracking change.
  • Saliva for the shape of one day, and the late-night test doctors use to screen for Cushing's.
  • Blood for a doctor's morning check, and for dynamic tests of the adrenal glands.
  • 24-hour urine for one day's total output, mainly when screening for Cushing's.
